Lay Leadership

The United Methodist Church, which began as a movement and a loose network of local societies with a mission, has grown into one of the most carefully organized and largest denominations in the world. The United Methodist structure and organization began as a means of accomplishing the mission of spreading Scriptural Holiness over the land. John Wesley recognized the need for an organized system of communication and accountability and developed what he called the “connexion,” which was an interlocking system of classes, societies, and annual conferences. (UM Member’s Handbook, p 24)

No local church is the total body of Christ. Therefore, local United Methodist churches are bound together by a common mission and common governance that accomplish reaching out into the world. United Methodist churches and organizations join in mission with each other and with other denominations.

2023 Lay Leadership

We serve our community and world in many different ways.

Through the Florida Conference, our church members, adults and youth, serve on mission teams locally and internationally. These many opportunities to serve in mission are one of the great strengths of the United Methodist Church. Join us!

We are a Partner in Ed with Dillard Street. Each month there are various opportunities to support our elementary students. To volunteer at any event, you will need to become an OCPS Addition. Then you can sign up for specific events.

Our church has supported the Coalition for twenty years. On the first Sunday of EVERY month we cook and serve the lunch meal to the families. We meet at the church at 10:30a to go to the Coalition, and we are done by 2:00p. Three to four people are needed each Sunday that we serve.

Habitat for Humanity builds strength, security, and self-reliance through shelter.

It’s an exciting time for West Orange Habitat for Humanity as we’ve just completed seven homes in East Winter Garden. Families have been selected for new home projects and are anxious to work alongside our volunteers, to build their own home and homes of others.
